How to Clean Your Cowhide Rug

Cleaning a cowhide rug requires some care to avoid damaging the hide or affecting its natural texture. Here are the steps you can follow to clean a cowhide rug:

Shake the rug outside: First, take the rug outside and shake it vigorously to remove any loose dirt or debris.

Vacuum the rug: Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to gently remove any remaining dirt or dust. Make sure to vacuum in the direction of the hair, not against it, to avoid damaging the rug.

Spot clean any stains: If there are any stains on the rug, use a damp cloth and a mild soap solution to spot clean the affected area. Rub gently in a circular motion and avoid using too much water, as this can damage the hide.

Rinse and dry the rug: After spot cleaning, rinse the area with a clean, damp cloth and then use a dry towel to blot away any excess moisture. Hang the rug to air dry in a well-ventilated area, but avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or heat.

Brush the rug: Once the rug is dry, use a soft-bristled brush to gently brush the hair in the direction of the grain. This will help to restore the rug's natural texture and shine.

Remember to avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools, as these can damage the delicate hair and hide of the cowhide rug.

If need be you can wash the rug thoroughly outside with mild soap and water
